What Are the Most Common Paint Correction Myths?

Myth 1: Paint correction includes repainting my automobile

Paint correction is actually a process that has almost nothing to do with your vehicle’s physical paint, despite the name of the process! Dealing with defects in your exterior clear coat, we cut, buff, and polish the clear coat itself to level it off and return it to a condition of seamless smoothness free of swirls, scrapes, and etching. It is important to note that we do NOT repaint your ride during paint correction.

Myth 2: If you drive a new automobile, it likely has no surface defects

While many new automobiles have a fewer number of defects in their coatings, there are usually always a couple present no matter how minor they may be. Those defects do have an impact on your new vehicle value, and paint correction is the only way to delicately and fully eliminate them from your automobile’s exterior. Oftentimes, our buffing and polishing process may be all that your new ride needs to see an improvement in gloss and surface clarity!

Myth 3: You can have your paint corrected multiple times

Paint correction is NOT like exterior or interior detailing - It only works for a certain number of times, depending on the thickness of your vehicle’s clear coat. Because paint correction involves light abrasion being applied to your clear coat, along with buffing and polishing to take away the dust caused by cutting with compounds, there is a limit to how many times it can be performed. If you have questions about your specific paint correction needs, give us a call at (315) 534-5110.

Pristine Detailing Studio - Our Paint Correction Process

Decontamination and Assessment

Like all pro detailing packages, we begin the paint correction process first with a total decontamination and hand wash of your vehicle’s exterior. During this effort, any and every ounce of environmental and human made contamination is removed, letting us see those surfaces more clearly. After the wash, the assessment of your paint’s condition can begin, where we look for any defects that need addressing.

Light Abrasion Using Compounds

Following the assessment, we then approach the areas where defects and paint discrepancies are present, utilizing a light abrasion technique to level off your vehicle’s clear coat and effectively eliminate issues. Being careful to ensure a smooth surface is the finished result, we use a cutting compound that will not damage your paintwork in any way during this cutting process. This is where your ride starts to slowly look better!

Buffing and Polishing to Finish

Thirdly, after we have used compounds to abrade away defects and discrepancies, it is time to buff and polish. Smoothing the corrected surface by way of buffing, polishing, and even jeweling where necessary takes your finish to a new level of candy-like shine, clearing any residual compounds and even remedying remaining defects and discrepancies. These efforts also leave a matched richness to your paint all across your whole vehicle.

Paint Protection Methods

Once all defects have been removed, we encourage you to consider one of our Owner’s Pride Ceramic Coating packages as a proactive solution to keeping paint stains and contamination away while also enhancing your gloss further. A ceramic coating can often act as a sacrificial layer as well as a magnifying effect to help your finish look even better than it had before.
